Blue Zones
“Part of the reason slowing down is so important is you miss life’s daily joys if you are always on the fast track toward a goal. While a great part of life is setting goals another equally beautiful part of being alive is stopping to smell the roses, play some trivia, watch the sunset, or hear a great band.”
As humans we are always on the go. We’re always trying to get to a better, nicer, and more relaxing part of the day or in our lives. But since we’re always on the go, we’re missing some of the simple, everyday things. As a student I want nothing more than for the school week to be over so it’s the weekend or for the next time there is a day off or vacation. People are always looking and planning for the future. But if we’re always in the future we’re missing what is right in front of our faces, the present.
Studies show that buy living in the present and taking as little as an hour a week can decrease our chances of getting illnesses, diseases, and aging effects. And by taking the time it could increase our longevity, or our life span. Just by taking as little as an hour a week for relaxation, can help a person physically and mentally. Just by following a few simple things on the Blue Zones website can change your life and even add years to you life.
I know that I don’t always take time to relax, and I’m usually thinking about something in the future. But I hoping that by taking at least an hour a week to just relax, meditate or make time for someone I haven’t seen in awhile will make me more relaxed and healthy. It’s good to have goals, but those goals shouldn’t stop you from living your life in the present. Everyone should stop and “smell the roses” every once in awhile.
