Letter of Self Assessment 3

December 3, 2010
Dear Amanda,
Over the semester I feel that the Writer’s Reference book has really proven helpful to me in writing all the papers. I have definitely gotten better in writing papers and making them flow better. I feel like writing a paper is a little bit easier now and that I have improved. I think that now my strengths are writing a paper and including quotes into it and then citing the quotes and text in the paper. I have gotten stronger in my writing since the start of the semester.
I feel that I have improved on a lot of my weaknesses. I still make some grammatical errors here and there but I have definitely worked on improving the flow of my papers. I think that I have fewer weaknesses than when I started writing papers in the beginning of the semester.
But I still plan and hope to improve my writing even when this class ends. I plan on taking everything that I learned in this class and apply it to other classes. I think I can take a lot from this class to help me in other classes.

  1. Ashley,
I enjoyed reading through your responses and I always loved hearing you papers read aloud. Your papers were always more upbeat than the rest of ours. When Jill, Stacy, or myself wrote about death or sad things your papers were always about happy things!
I truly believe that you have improved your writing skills through out the duration of this course- so have the rest of us. Not only did you improve through the course but I saw improvement in each one of your drafts. It appeared to me that you put a lot of effort into improving each draft. You respected everyone’s opinion when our group reviewed each one of your papers. I really enjoyed our writing group this semester we were all so supportive and considerate of each other. Thank you for that!
It seems like you enjoyed this course and took a lot from it. I glad you enjoyed writing about each one of your topics and you did well passionately writing about them. Although, you said you had a lot of difficulty writing your argument essay I believe this was your strongest paper in which you showed all of the skills you acquired through taking this course.
I hope you enjoy next semester and I hope I will see you around!

    - Mary

  2. That is what I love to hear--that you intend to apply what you've gained in Writing 105 to your future classes. That's absolutely what we professors hope our students will do.

  3. I hadn't thought about the upbeat nature of your papers, but I think Mary is right, though the argument certainly darkens the tone of your body of writing.
